ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - With the calendar turning to April, open burning of dry yard waste is allowed in St. Joseph city limits during the entire month.
Fires are allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in an upright container 55 gallons or less in volume. Only one burn container per residence is allowed, and they must be at least 15 feet from any building.
Fires must also be closely monitored and a garden hose or water bucket must be available to contain the fire if necessary.
Public Information Officer with the St. Joseph Health Department Stephanie Malita also adds that only yard waste should be burned, with trash or paper not allowed.
