DES MOINES, Iowa - Even though it's not summer, it's felt like summer all week, and that has a lot of people ready to get back out on the water. May 21-27 is National Safe Boating Week, an effort to remind people about boating safety.
Boating Law Administrator and Education Coordinator with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Susan Stocker says they have seen a huge problem with distracted boating.
She adds that people need to realize when they're out on the waters, it's not just phones or friends that distract you, it's the glare from the sun off the water or other elements.
