JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It's the end of the holiday weekend, but it also marks the start of summer; as well as a dead time of year according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

MoDOT calls it the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer," usually spanning between Memorial Day and Labor Day. During last year's "100 Deadliest Days of Summer," 333 people were killed in Missouri wrecks.

According to a press release from MoDOT, the three leading causes of crashes were distracted driving, excessive speed and following too closely.
