JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri's Secretary of State is issuing a warning to residents.
According to a press release from Jay Ashcroft's office, there has been a recent increase in fraudulent schemes targeting owners of timeshare properties in Mexico.
The scammers will get a hold of people, claiming to be representatives of a brokerage firm, travel agency, title company or agent.
The scammers go on to promise to pay a significant sum of money or claim the owner is entitled to shares of stock in connection with the property.
The fraudsters end their pitch by saying the time share owner must pay a fee or tax to get the promised payment. If you get a call from a scammer, call 800-721-79-97 or visit missouri-protects-investors-DOT-com.
