JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A federal jury in Florida has convicted the head of a hospital management company and another person after the scheme was uncovered in the KXCV/KRNW listening area.

Jorge Perez and Ricardo Perez, who were convicted for their roles in a conspiracy to operate a multi-state $1.4 billion billing scheme, were using rural hospitals to submit fraudulent claims.

Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway says the scheme was uncovered during a 2017 audit in Putnam County.

The audit, which found $90 million dollars in illegal billings were passed through the Putnam County Memorial Hospital, marked the largest fraud exposed in the history of the Missouri State Auditor's Office.
