DES MOINES, Iowa - As wildfires continue to rage in parts of the west, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fire Program, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Mark Twain National Forest Fire Management crew, have joined forces to dispatch wildland firefighters wherever they are needed.
Fire specialist with the Iowa DNR Ryan Schlater reports a 20 person crews is going to Alaska and Colorado, and a three person crew with a Wildland Fire Engine is going to western Texas.
Crews going to Colorado and Texas are on a two-week mission before returning home, while the crew going to Alaska are there for three weeks.
Schlater reports that dispatch totaled to 32 Missourians, and 11 Iowans. Schlater also adds that if anyone in Iowa is interested in helping with the wildfires in 2023, residents can call him at 515-233-8067
