ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A new disease has been found in Missouri, but not in our listening area yet. Wayne Flanary, field specialist in agronomy for Missouri University Extension, says tar spot originated in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.

Symptoms of tar spot are small, raised black spots that can occur on both the top and bottom of corn leaves.

Flanary says if anyone has any concerns about tar spot in their farms, to call their local extension office and get it tested, as Tar Spot is similar to other diseases that affect corn.
