JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri poultry producers are being encouraged to remain vigilant by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
That's because the avian influenza, also known as bird flu, has been confirmed in both commercial and backyard chicken flocks across several Midwestern states this month.
This past spring, the bird flu impacted the poultry industry sending prices skyrocketing. Experts worry the same thing could happen this fall which could impact Thanksgiving.
If you notice any symptoms in your flock, like being uninterested in eating, lower egg production or death, you're asked to call your local veterinarian or the MDA at 573-751-3377.
