Man accused of beating daughter to death dies

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A Saint Joseph man who allegedly beat his six-year-old daughter to death has died from wounds he suffered in a suicide attempt last week.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office says Dustin Beechner was discovered last Friday in the county jail suffering from self-inflicted wounds. He died Monday morning.

His death is being investigated and an autopsy will be performed on his body. Beechner was in jail on a count of child abuse resulting in death.

Authorities claim Beechner beat his daughter, Jozlyn Marie Beechner, to death with an aluminum bat back on Sept. 2.
