ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Growers and producers in the area need to be on the lookout for damaged corn kernels.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture and Grain Inspection Service identified an organism called Diplodia ear and stalk rot in kernel samples, causing "cob rot."
Wayne Flanary, University of Missouri Extension Field Specialist, suggests drying grain to 14% moisture and to cool grain to below 50 degree Farhrenheit as soon as possible, and the infected grain should be stored at 30 degrees Fahrenheit as winter approaches.
