Iowa DNR reminds hunters to stay safe

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants to remind duck hunters in our listening area that water safety during the colder months is a matter of life or death.

Often, the weight of hunting gear and additional cold weather layers can get even the most experienced hunters in trouble.

Boating Law Administrator and Education Coordinator, Susan Stocker, advises hunters to stay aware of the risks that come with duck hunting.

Asking that they be aware of the weight of their gear, avoid overloading their boats, and make sure that their vehicle is equipped to handle the load.

Iowa law also requires a readily accessible, U.S Coast Guard life jacket be available for every passenger on board. More information on boating safety can be found online at iowadnr.gov.
