JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - If you are wanting colorful spring blooms, the University of Missouri Extension suggests planting bulbs now.
Planning and planting in the fall will reward gardeners with blooms in the spring and Donna Aufdenberg, a field specialist in horticulture, says to know your growing zone, consider soil type, consider color combinations, plan for blooms throughout spring, plant in groups, protect bulbs, and buy from a trusted source.
For the best results, buy bulbs now and put in a dry, cool place until planting at the end of October, when the soil is cool. For more gardening tips, you can visit extension.missouri.edu/g6610.
