Lab research has confirmed that a bat that bit a woman and her dog in Saint Joseph has rabies.
Officials say the woman spotted the bat outside her residence near Beck Road and 36th Street. The woman is currently receiving treatment from her medical provider for her bite. As for her dog, the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccination and will remain quarantined at home for 45 days with weekly checks by Animal Control.
If you or one of your pets is ever bitten by a wild animal or even an unfamiliar pet, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately.
