DEARBORN, Mo. - A woman is in serious condition after a collision with a Missouri Department of Transportation dump truck in Buchanan County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Lauren Welch, of Overland Park, Kansas, was driving a 2016 Mazda CX5 Utility vehicle on I-29, about two miles north of Dearborn.

At 10:53 a.m. Monday, authorities say Welch slammed into the towed unit of the stationary MODoT dump truck which was in the passing lane due to mowers. A flashing arrow did indicate the passing lane was closed.

Welch, who was wearing her seatbelt, was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with serious injuries. The driver of the MODoT truck, 33-year-old Daniel Roe of St. Joseph, suffered minor injuries.
