DES MOINES, Iowa - If you're a furtrapper north of Missouri, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources needs your help.
The DNR is asking trappers who accidentally catch gray foxes alive and healthy to contact them so they can put a tracking collar on it for research.
Vince Evelsizer, furbearer biologist for the DNR, says Iowa's gray fox population is going down and they are not sure why. These collars are supposed to help them understand better.
They are offering a $400 reward as an incentive for live-caught foxes that are healthy and used for the study.
If you catch one, can contact Vince Evelsizer at 641-231-1522, or you can contact wildlife technician Dave Hoffman at 641-425-0737.
If neither of them are available you can also contact your local wildlife biologist or conservation officer.
