JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It's National Crash Responder Safety Week and the Missouri Department of Transportation is using it as a reminder to motorists to slow down and eliminate distractions.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, traffic incidents are the leading cause of death for EMS responders and law enforcement officers.
MODoT says emergency response personnel respond to more than 6,000 traffic incidents each month on average. If you see emergency personnel, slow down, turn on your blinker, check your mirrors, and switch lanes. For more info, visit modot.org.
