KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Army Corps of Engineers is preparing the Missouri River for the winter months. With the end of the navigation season, the Corps is lowering the releases from the Gavins Point Dam upstream.
During the winter months, the Corps will be monitoring the river closely because of the low levels due to the drought as well as the potential for ice jams, which can affect the flow of the river.
While the Corps won't predict the future of the drought along the River, they are preparing the Missouri River system to handle the drought if it lingers deep into next year.
