The Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants to remind hunters that deer shotgun season is underway ending today and starting back up on Saturday, December 10th through the 18th.
Tyler Harms, Wildlife Research Biometrician, hopes to see trends in harvest of deer this year. In recent years, hunters have reported slightly over 100,000 deer harvested.
In addition to the deer shotgun season, the DNR will have an Excess Tag January Antlerless Season. However, only centerfire rifles .223 caliber to .500 calibers with published or calculated muzzle energy of 500-foot pounds or higher are allowed in the Excess Tag January Season. Licenses for this season will be available January 11th.
