Stone inks with Central Missouri Track & Field

Keaton Stone signing his letter of intent Friday morning.

Maryville High School's Keaton Stone began to find traction in track and field during his sophomore season, qualifying for state in the triple jump. He followed that up his junior year with all-state performances in both the triple jump and long jump.

With his high school senior season just months away, he's already found a collegiate home.

Stone signed with the University of Central Missouri Friday afternoon in front of friends and family. The Spoofhound standout said his decision was between UCM and Northwest Missouri State, and ultimately he decided to make the leap from his hometown.

"I met some kids on the team, and I know some people that are already on that team from other schools in our conference and other kids I've competed with. Everyone was just super nice, felt loved, and so I was like this is definitely a place I could see myself at," Stone said of his visit to UCM.

Stone is a multi-sport athlete, finishing the football season with a district title, and now still in the early portion of a promising basketball season. Maryville track & field coach Rodney Bade said it's the constant drive and willingness to help the team in any way that makes him great.

"I think it just speaks to his attitude and his personality a little bit. He's just up for anything. That's kind of always been the case. He's just 'let's give it a try, let's give it a shot.' It's fun to work with a kid like that that you have to hold him out of events at some meets to rest him a little bit, because he'd do four every single time."

Before Stone trades in his Spoofhound green and yellow for Mule red and black, the first scheduled meet of his senior year for Maryville track & field is March 18 at the Hughes Fieldhouse in the Bearcat Indoor.
