Elijah Green's ability to wreck an offense earned top honors from MIAA coaches.
The senior defensive lineman was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in sacks and tackles-for-loss. Green posted 11 sacks on the year, 2.5 more than Dubem Okonkwo of Pittsburg State in second. The Maryville native also dominated the tackles-for-loss category raking in 21 total TFLs for the 2022 regular season. Second on the list is Green's teammate Zach Howard with 13. He's the 12th Bearcat since 2000 to earn MIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, and the third straight Northwest player to earn it along with Sam Roberts (2021) and Spencer Phillips (2019).
Joining Green on the All-MIAA First Team is Howard, a fellow defensive lineman, and defensive back Cahleel Smith. Both Howard and Smith were first team members last season also. Running back Jamar Moya also cracked the list as the league's first-team all-purpose back. Moya's rushed for 556 yards, has 407 receiving yards on 51 catches, and has seven total touchdowns.
