Vierthaler Signs with UCM Jennies

The Maryville High School basketball season doesn't start for another three weeks, but one Spoofhound is getting a jump on her college career.

Rylee Vierthaler signed her letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Central Missouri.

Vierthaler, a multi-sport standout, has been a key cog with the Spoofhounds, helping Maryville to three winning seasons in her first three years within the program, including a district title as a freshman and another run to the district championship game as a sophomore. As a junior, she put up 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Vierthaler fielded offers from schools all around the MIAA, but knew when she set foot in Warrensburg that it was the place for her.

"From the visit I kind of already knew that that's where I wanted to go," Vierthaler said. "I love the campus, I love the atmosphere, I love the girls, I love the coaches. All of it just kind of clicked."

Maryville head coach Kelly Obley said it has come full circle watching Vierthaler grow on the court and now serve as a leader for the underclassmen on the team.

"I think back to a couple years ago when we were here for Serena Sundell's signing, and Rylee was under her wing. Now Rylee's in that mentor role for some of our younger players. It's just a system that keeps building and Rylee's been a great ambassador for that."

Vierthaler capped her high school volleyball career two weeks prior guiding the Spoofhounds to a 19-win campaign and trip to the district title match. She was a First Team All-MEC selection and broke the Maryville kills record with 1,120 through her four seasons.

Maryville opens its season the week of November 28th in the Savannah Invitational.
