JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A new report shows the majority of nurses licensed in Missouri are actively employed full-time in their field or in a position that requires a nursing license. The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance recently released of the 2022 Nursing Workforce Report.

Very few nurses report that they are unemployed and looking for work as a nurse, indicating there is a limited supply of nurses within the state available to meet the current need for nursing services. Missouri also has a high percentage of nurses that are at or near retirement age.

The report includes workforce data on more than 96% of the nurses in Missouri, and is prepared on an annual basis by the University of Missouri Center for Health Policy and the Missouri State Board of Nursing and provides essential insights into the current state of the nursing workforce.
