ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A St. Joseph man has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for drunk driving and causing a fatal crash that killed a pregnant woman.

Buchanan County Circuit Judge Pat Robb issued the maximum sentence against 30-year-old Steven Ayala. He plead guilty to driving while intoxicated and crashing into a head-on vehicle on the Belt Highway near Sacramento Street about a year ago.

The crash killed 26-year-old Savannah Domann and her unborn child, Raydyn Kay Erickson. Court records state that Ayala's blood alcohol content was nearly double the legal limit.

Ayala also confessed to authorities that he had used narcotics and sedatives before the wreck.
