ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A former Missouri state senator and Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner has passed away. Sidney Johnson of St. Joseph was 80-years-old when he died last Friday.
Johnson was born in Sedalia, but grew up in St. Joseph after his family moved there when he was two-years-old.
Johnson had a career in public service, serving as Buchana County Collector, Buchanan County Presiding Commisioner, and serving 12 years in the Missouri Senate where he chaired seven committees.
Johnson also served as the Missouri Tourism Commission and presided as president of the Missouri Association of Counties. Funeral services are scheduled for this Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Frazier Baptist Church in Frazier, Mo.
