DES MOINES, Iowa - 2022 was a great year for deer hunters. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, last year saw a 7% increase in deer hunted over the 2021 season.
The DNR says this is due in part to the new Excess Tag January Antlerless Season, which was approved by lawmakers last year.
Overall, hunters tagged deer at a rate of 30-35%, which is similiar to previous years, for a total of nearly 110,000 deer. Officials adds that north central and southeast regions saw the biggest uptick in hunting numbers.
