MU Extension Office encourages spring flower planting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Its time to spring forward into spring flowers. The University of Missouri Extension would like to remind you that, as we move into spring, bulb flowers are coming into season.

Crocus, daffodil, hyacinth, and tulips are some of the most sought after flowers this season. Sadly, late frosts in Missouri can cut these delicate flowers down mid bloom.

However, as soon as the bulbs show color, you can cut the stem, bring them inside and place them in a vase with water and they will still bloom.

Another option to increase the longevity of your enjoyment is to grow them as potted plants, where you can bring them inside to protect them from the frost.

Once the blossoms fade, you can place the root balls into the ground and enjoy the flowers next year. For more information, contact your local University of Missouri Extension Office.
