DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa state parks and forests are preparing for a busy Memorial Day weekend, marking the start of the summer recreation season.
With a variety of activities available, park visitors will enjoy hiking, picnicking, fishing, and swimming this upcoming weekend. Campers are advised to plan ahead as popular electrical and full hookup sites are already reserved.
Non-electric sites and lesser-known parks are alternatives. Some first-come, first-served sites are available. For reservations and park updates, visit iowadnr.gov.
Visitors should maintain cleanliness, follow beach rules, and stay safe during severe weather. State officials add that hope everyone has a memorable and safe experience, offering tips such as checking the weather, packing essentials, and being considerate neighbors.
