DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has an update on the latest chronic wasting disease numbers.
The DNR says that CWD, sometimes known as zombie deer disease, has been found in 96 deer during the 2022 monitoring season, including in three new counties in the Hawkeye state.
According to a press release, DNR officials sample around 5,000 deer annually and has collected over 100,000 tissue samples since 2002.
While the disease has not been found in Woodbury County for two years and in Decatur County since 2019, the Iowa DNR adds that there really isn't any place in Iowa where this disease can't turn up.
