ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about another scam, but this one is personal.

Sheriff Bill Puett warns that these criminals are using his name to instill fear and deceive people into providing gift card information, which they then use to steal money.

The scam calls have been reported in St. Joseph and even as far as Jefferson City. Sheriff Puett emphasizes that his department will never ask for money over the phone.

He urges recipients of such calls to hang up immediately and report them to his office. Puett expresses frustration that his name is associated with this scam and reassures the community that they work diligently to serve and protect citizens.

Remember, the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department will never ask for money, so be vigilant and report any suspicious calls to the department.
