CONCEPTION, Mo. - The monks of Conception Abbey have completed enhancements to the sanctuary in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
To commemorate the abbey's 150th anniversary, the monastic community decided to enhance the sanctuary with both structural and artistic additions. The goal is to deepen their interior life and renew their fervor in worship.
The newly decorated wall behind the sanctuary creates a contrasting background for the crucifix and marble altar, making them more prominent.
A small shrine has been added to recapture the architectural lines of the original church and draw the eye upward. The Basilica is open to the public for Mass, liturgies, and guided tours.
