Fake money popping up in Iowa town

CLARINDA, Iowa - Hollywood has come to Iowa, but unfortunately, not in the way you're thinking.

Clarinda police and the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce are warning residents after counterfeit bills were discovered circulating in the area.

It all started when a local business received fake motion picture prop money in exchange for merchandise.

Police Chief Keith Brothers says these bills are clearly stamped for motion picture use and even say "in props we trust" on the back. This type of counterfeit money can be purchased online in various denominations.

While the incident seems isolated, more of this fake movie money was found in the city park. Chief Brothers urges residents to be cautious, inspect their money, and take a few extra seconds to ensure the bills they receive are legitimate.

If you have any questions or need further information on the situation, contact police at 712-542-2194.
