DES MOINES, Iowa - This Fourth of July, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources urges boaters and anglers to protect Iowa's lakes and streams by checking for unwanted hitchhikers.
Aquatic invasive species can wreak havoc on water bodies, harming native species and ruining recreational experiences.
By cleaning, draining, and drying boats and equipment after each use, boaters can prevent the spread of these invaders. Remember to clean off any plants or mud, drain all water, and dry everything thoroughly.
It's also illegal to possess or transport prohibited species in Iowa. Stay informed and help preserve Iowa's beautiful waters. For more information, visit iowadnr.gov/ais.
