DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State Park Passport is making a comeback this year. From now to Oct. 31, passport holders can earn points by checking into over 60 state parks and forests using the online app.

Each park has a different point value, with "hidden gems" worth higher points. Prizes can be redeemed with the earned points.

New this year, participants can discover "Hidden Gems" within each park and share a selfie on social media for a chance to win an outdoor cooking package.

To join, visit the Iowa DNR website and download the State Park Passport app. Previous passholders need to sign up for the 2023 program.

Prizes include discounts on camping stays, weather-proof stickers, ceramic coffee mugs, and chances to win paddling packages or cabin stays.

Donations from Bass Pro Shops and the Iowa Hunter Education Association support the prize offerings.
