JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri ranks 28th in child well-being, according to the latest Kids COUNT.

The reports shows that the lack of affordable and accessible child care in the Show-Me state is forcing parents to miss work or even quit their jobs.

These challenges are also costing the American economy billions of dollars annually and creating a difficult juggling act for families.

Tracy Greever-Rice, Program Director of Missouri KIDS COUNT, emphasizes the need for accessible and affordable child care for all Missourians.

Additionally, the cost of child care burdens families, while child care workers are among the lowest-paid professions. The failings of the child care market have a significant impact on the economy and the well-being of families.

Missouri's overall rank of 28th in the Data Book highlights both strengths and areas for improvement. Investments and policy changes at the federal, state, and local levels are necessary to transition to a flourishing child care system.
