COLUMBUS, Neb. - Hot temperatures are here and one area utility company has tips to keep your home cool.
The Nebraska Public Power District says one of the best ways to cool down your house apartment this summer is to use shades or blinds and to keep windows closed.
They also recommend cooking outside to reduce heat because anytime you cook inside, your home must use more electricity to remove the newly generated heat.
Smart thermostats can optimize air conditioning usage, adjusting temperatures when you're away. The NPPD adds that you shouldn't forget to change air filters and clear debris around the outdoor unit for efficient operation.
