ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The City of St. Joseph Health Department is offering one of the shingles vaccines vaccine. The Shingrix, two-dose vaccine, is now available for individuals aged 50 and older.

Immunizations are provided at the health department from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no appointment necessary.

There is no fee for vaccine administration, and insurance is accepted but not required. It's important to note that two doses are needed for optimum protection, so those who have received the first dose should return for the second.

Shingles is a painful rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Getting vaccinated can help prevent shingles and its potential complications, such as long-term nerve pain.

Even if someone has had shingles before, it is still recommended to get the vaccine.
