Hay scammers still on the prowl in MO

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri farmers and ranchers are being warned about hay scammers by Attorney General Andrew Bailey and Agriculture Director Chris Chinn.

Due to high demand and low supply caused by a dry spring, fake ads on platforms like Facebook are targeting farmers. Scammers ask for money but fail to deliver the promised hay.

To stay safe, farmers are advised to buy from trusted sources, research sellers, use credit cards or cashier's checks for online purchases, and be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true.

Missouri State Parks offer emergency water and hay access, while the Attorney General's Office is ready to assist those who have been scammed.

Attorney General Bailey encourages Missourians with complaints regarding a potential hay scam to contact the Missouri Attorney General’s Consumer Complaint Hotline at 800-392-8222 or by visiting ago.mo.gov.
