MO farmers urged to watch out for fire ants

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In the midst of a severe drought in Missouri, farmers are facing unique challenges and now they have to worry about the hay they're importing from other states.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture is cautioning producers about the potential risk of imported fire ants in these shipments from southern and western states.

That's because those states are under the USDA's Imported Fire Ant Quarantine. The MDA is urging livestock producers, haulers, and shippers to be vigilant and contact her with any questions or concerns about the imported fire ant.

If you have any questions or concerns about hay imports or fire ants, you can call 573-751-5507 or 573-751-5505.
