OMAHA, Neb. - Drought conditions continue to impact the Missouri River. In the latest update on the Missouri River basin, July runoff above Sioux City, Iowa, was at 99% of the average, reaching 3.3 million acre-feet.

Although soil moisture conditions improved in some areas, drought continued to impact Montana, North Dakota, and northern South Dakota.

The annual runoff forecast above Sioux City is projected to be 111% of the average at 28.5 million acre-feet. System storage peaked at 56.6 million acre-feet on July 22, declining slightly to 56.3 million acre-feet on Aug. 1.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects the reservoir inflows to decrease during the remainder of 2023 due to ongoing releases to meet authorized purposes. The Corps will continue to monitor conditions and adjust regulations accordingly.
