DES MOINES, Iowa - Amid the ongoing wildfires in the western United States, Iowa's Department of Natural Resources Fire Program is stepping in to lend a helping hand.

Seven Iowa wildland firefighters have been dispatched to Montana's Bowles Creek Fire, while another seven, along with 13 from Missouri, are heading to Texas' Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.

The challenges are immense, with the Montana fire located in rugged, steep terrain and the Texas crew facing fierce flames.

Iowa's DNR remains vigilant, monitoring fire behavior and new starts across the southwest U.S. The program has a dedicated team ready to respond to resource orders and assist in national incidents since 2006.
