Iowa DNR preparing for seed orders

DES MOINES, Iowa - Before the start of fall, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources State Forest Nursery is prepping for seedling orders. Starting Friday, Sept. 1, you can order seedlings until May 30.

These bare-root seedlings come in bundles of 25 and are neatly packed in sealed, labeled plastic bags. You've got several choices, including 23 native hardwood species, eight evergreens, and 15 smaller trees and shrubs.

Prices range from just $0.80 to $1.20 per seedling. You can pick from 3 age classifications, with sizes between 10 to 30 inches depending on the species.

Around one million seedlings are sold yearly, with 3-5 million growing on-site. For more information, visit nursery.iowadnr.gov or call 1-800-865-2477 on weekdays.
