MDC asks you to keep an eye out for invasive species

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is asking you to keep an eye out this month for a destructive invasive insect which poses a serious threat.

The MDC says the Asian longhorned beetle can feed on various tree species, including red maple, boxelder, ash, and more. To help protect our local forests, you can participate in Tree Check Month.

Officials say you keep an eye out for large, shiny beetles with white spots and long antennae, as well as exit holes and wood shavings around trees.

If you spot these signs, report them with photos to MDC's Forest Health staff. You can notify staff by sending an email to forest.health@mdc.mo.gov.
