JEFFERSON CITHY, Mo.-  A new Missouri bill will hopefully cut down on road fatalities this upcoming year. In response to rising road fatalities, Gov. Mike Parson signed the Siddens Bening Hands-Free Law this year.

It prohibits handheld electronic device use while driving. It went into effect this week. Distracted driving caused nearly 200,000 crashes and 801 fatalities in Missouri between 2012 and 2021.

The law aims to curb cell phone-related crashes, restricting holding phones, texting, recording, and watching videos while driving.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and the Missouri State Highway Patrol applaud this move, emphasizing the law's potential to save lives and make roads safer.
