SHENANDOAH, Iowa - The Shenandoah Community School District will have a fresh face when returns student tomorrow.
After several incidents in the district last year, the school board created the new student resource officer position, filled by Officer David Erickson.
Officer Erickson began his duties earlier this month and brings over 25 years of police service to the job. The SRO role extends beyond security, emphasizing mentoring and character development.
School officials highlight Erickson's dedication to youth programs, aiming to inspire positive choices and life skills.
As an integral part of the school team, he will be present across all facilities, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. The district sees the SRO as a trusted mentor, encouraging open communication for students' well-being.
