ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Tomorrow is International Overdose Awareness Day, which seeks to reduce stigma around drug-related deaths and raise awareness about overdose prevention.

The Buchanan County Opioid Task Force plans a remembrance event in honor of the day at Felix Street Square at 7 p.m. Purple lights and flashlights will honor those affected by overdose.

There will also be materials to create a remembrance rock, masks, lapel pins, silicone bracelets, and lanyards. The event provides a platform for sharing stories of how substance use disorder impacts lives.

Resources about the Good Samaritan Law and support services for local treatment and recovery programs will be available. The event aims to challenge stigma and promote solutions against this epidemic.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
