U.S. drought map shows slight improvements for area

drought

WASHINGTON - In the latest update from the Weekly Drought Monitor, familiar conditions are persisting in certain areas while other areas are seeing improvements.

Despite the heat that we're experiencing, portions of the Midwest are seeing widespread improvement thanks to precipitation over the past several weeks.

All of Missouri saw continued improvements, with improving streamflow and soil moisture. Kansas saw heavy precipitation continue, bringing further improvements to the east and central regions.

Areas near Kansas City saw upwards of three inches of precipitation. Some improvements occurred along parts of the Nebraska-South Dakota border.

Both southeast and northeast South Dakota saw improvement from heavy rainfall and improving soil moisture. Unfortunately the prolonged heat this week and lack of precipitation could set several areas back.
