JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - While Missouri turkey hunters are taking part in archery season right now, the state Department of Conservation has a reminder going forward.
Turkey hunters are asked to send turkey feathers to MDC using a provided postage-paid envelope. These feathers will aid MDC scientists in enhancing research models for tracking turkey populations statewide.
Hunters are advised to save the 9th and 10th primary wing feathers and three-to-five breast feathers from harvested turkeys.
After Telechecking, they can sign up for the program and receive a feather submission packet for mailing the feathers back to MDC. For details and forms, visit mdc.mo.gov.
Archery season continues through Nov. 10, and starts up against on Nov. 22 and last through Jan. 15. Fall firearms seasons is through the entire month of October.
