JAMESPORT, Mo. - A northwest Missouri company has been fined for its part in the fatal fall of a teenage employee.
According to a press release, Troyer Roofing and Coatings of Jamesport was fined a little over $205,000 after an 18-year-old employee of the company fell more than 22 feet while working on a roof on March 27.
The employee died after spending five days in a coma. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the company allowed a foreman and another worker to complete the job without protection after the tragic fall.
OSHA also accuses the roofing company of allowing employees to decide whether or not to use fall protection, and failed to train employees on how to use protection.
Investigators add that the company failed to train workers on property forklift operations, failed to provide face and eye protection, and did not have a written hazard communication program for chemicals.
