ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Agronomists are warning farms in the KXCV/KRNW listening area.

The fungus that causes white mold in soybeans has been confirmed in Holt and Atchison counties. Officials say the disease thrives in cool, wet weather and can girdle soybean stems.

In a press release, University of Missouri Extension specialist Wayne Flanary, advises avoiding early planting and using row crops to prevent canopy closure during flowering.

Fungicides applied from beginning bloom to early pod may help. Flanary says if you find white mold in your fields, harvest those last to avoid spreading spores.

He asks anyone seeing the disease to contact him so experts can assess the problem. Flanary can be reached at 816-279-1691.
