ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - It'll be a first for the city of St. Joseph later this month. The first-ever St. Joseph Marathon will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23.

So that all of the community can participate, there will also be a half-marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a relay event. The route will begin and end behind Civic Center Park in the downtown area.

Runners will be taken from north to south and pass several landmarks along the route, including Krug and Hyde Parks, Lovers Lane, the Pony Express Museum and more.

City officials say it'll be an exciting event because it'll be bringing runners in from around the country, and so far sign-ups indicate that very fact.

That's because full marathon participants will have the chance to achieve a Boston Marathon qualifying time. Registration opened up at the early part of this year and will remain open through the day before the race.
